"...Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." -1 Cor 10:31
For 43 children a day, the carefree days of childhood stop when the doctor utters the word “Cancer.” Everything stops as they begin to prepare for the fight of their life without ever really understanding why.
At the age of 4, a family friend in Tennessee was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was given a 1 out of 8 chance of survival. Even as I was just 4 years old myself I wanted to do something to help. It was then that the foundation for State of Love was built. I was able to raise over $400 in John Randall’s honor for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. John Randall went through a year and a half of cancer treatments and was declared to have “NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE” in 2013! In the 2nd grade I approached my mother and asked if I could cut my hair off to donate for a child going through cancer. She asked a simple question, “Do you want to help just one kid?” My answer was “no”. What I wanted to do was to give as many kids going through treatments the opportunity to forget about cancer for just a moment and to smile. At just 8 years old I began State of Love as my personal platform and outreach.
As part of my personal platform I have been able to donate to pediatric cancer patients across the state and at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. “State of Love” gives them a moment to forget about the battle they face and just be a kid. Through my platform I have been able to work with local service organizations, university bookstores, companies, and private individuals who help to provide for these amazing kids. I look forward to continuing to have the opportunity to raise awareness about pediatric cancer and give people a way to make a difference in the lives of others.
Through my community service initiative I will educate others on childhood cancer, while hoping to give a smile to those children fighting their battle. I will lead by example as I advocate not only for children with cancer, but also for the multitude of opportunities connected with the Miss Alabama program. I want the opportunity to reach people of all ages and set an example that we can all have a positive impact on the world around us.
